War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other’s children. ~ Jimmy Carter
These portraits referenced from historical photos of wartime children were included in the exhibition The Other Side of War. These larger than life studies are imagined as being for sculptures- like the rows of saints on medieval cathedrals. I wondered: instead of statues of heroes or saints upon our buildings and monuments, what if, there were children looking down upon us. Would we think about war differently?
