War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other’s children. ~ Jimmy Carter
These portraits were included in the exhibition The Other Side of War. I wondered: what if, instead of statues of heroes or saints upon our cathedrals and monuments, there were sculptures of children looking down upon us. Would we think about war differently? Would we be so proud?
